The Great Willys Picnic
Show and Swap Meet

June 12, 2011 from 9 am - 4 pm at the No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum
located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, PA

It's time to plan for the 12th annual Great Willys Picnic, Car Show and Swap Meet. All vehicles are welcome: stock, modified, projects, CJs, Wagons, Trucks, Jeepsters, Military, Cars and even GPWs! Every pre-1970 Willys vehicle is eligible to win door prizes. This show has grown into the largest Northeast Willys event. 53 vehicles and hundreds of enthusiasts were present at last year's picnic. There is plenty of space for selling your spare parts in the swap meet area. Bring your Willys memorabilia and interesting parts for show and tell. Be sure to arrive early because at 3:00 PM the door prize winners are announced and awarded. Bring your own picnic lunch or support the local Lansford Fire Department who will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers.

The Picnic is held on the grounds of the historic No. 9 Mine & Museum, located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, Pennsylvania. This is a great setting to display our classic Willys vehicles, as well as entertainment for the entire family. Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Visitors can take a train ride into the mine to see and experience first hand what it was like for old time miners to work underground. There is also plenty to look at in the museum and blacksmith demonstration.

As always the Willys Picnic, Show and Swap is free. Plan to take the optional Coal Mine Tour & visit the Museum for a very reasonable fee.

The Picnic is held each year on the second Sunday in June (the Sunday before Fathers Day).

2010 Great Willys Picnic

The 11th annual Willys Picnic was a huge success again this year. Despite some looming clouds, participants drove or trailered 53 vehicles* plus many trailers to show. We did get a couple afternoon showers but overall the weather was just fine.

We would like to thank everyone who brought a vehicle to the show. It wouldn't be a show without the Jeeps or the swap meet vendors. Also many thanks to the No. 9 Mine and Museum for the generous use of their grounds and facilities. Hopefully everyone had a chance to visit the Museum and take the Mine tour, where the temperature is always 52 degrees. There was also a very interesting Blacksmith demonstration along side the museum. Thanks to Shawn Frederickson, the DJ who provided music for everyone all day. And the Lansford Fire Department for cooking up lunch. They were grilling burgers and dogs all afternoon. Walcks 4WD, OK Auto, 4WD and Tire, and Larry Long provided event advertising. Carl and Dan from Walck’s Four Wheel Drive were busy answering technical questions all day.

Please support the vendors who supplied the door prizes for this year's event:

Plan to attend the Willys Picnic next year on Sunday June 12, 2011 at the same location. Make a weekend trip out of it. There are plenty of things to see and do in Willys Country and Carbon County, PA. There are many State Parks in the area with hiking, bike riding, kayaking and whitewater rafting. The historic town of Jim Thorpe is just a couple of miles down the road.

* 7/13 update; 54 show vehicles, one vehicle did not make it to the event. Bernie Iasiello had the misfortune of getting a load of bad fuel and broke down en route.
