June 13, 2010 from 10 am - 3 pm
at the No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum
located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, PA
It's
time to plan for the 11th annual Great Willys Picnic, Car Show and Swap
Meet. All vehicles are welcome: stock, modified, projects, CJs, Wagons,
Trucks, Jeepsters, Military, Cars and even GPWs! Every pre-1970 Willys
vehicle is eligible to win contests and door prizes. This show has
grown into the largest Northeast Willys event. Fifty vehicles and
hundreds of enthusiasts were present at last year's picnic. There is
plenty of space for selling your spare parts in the swap meet area.
Bring your Willys memorabilia and interesting parts for show and tell.
Be sure to arrive early because at 3:00 PM the contest winners are
announced and the prizes awarded. Bring your own picnic lunch or
support the local Lansford Fire Department who will be selling hot dogs
and hamburgers.
The Picnic will be held on the grounds of the historic No. 9 Mine &
Museum, located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, Pennsylvania. This is a
great setting to display our classic Willys vehicles, as well as
entertainment for the entire family. Closed in 1972, the mine was
re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Visitors can take a
train ride into the mine to see and experience first hand what it was
like for old time miners to work underground. There is also plenty to
look at in the museum.
As always the Willys Picnic, Show and Swap is free. The optional Mine
Tour & Museum admission is just $7.00 per person or $3.00 for
Museum only.

The 2009 Great Willys Picnic was a terrific success. Forty
nine antique vehicles plus a few more modern Jeeps were on display for
hundreds to see.
Unusual highlights included an Empire tractor (Empires used a Willys
drive train), an M-170 front line ambulance, a Mule and several project
jeeps. It was good to see so many familiar faces among the crowd – and
all the new people and vehicles as well. This year we moved the
Picnic to the Number 9 Mine and Museum in Lansford, PA. The mine was a
great attraction, and a way to cool off on a warm day. Hope you got a
chance to see the blacksmith demonstration, he was making knives from
old railroad spikes. The local fire department provided food for sale –
a nice addition to the informal picnic. The real star of the show was
the sheer numbers of Willys in one place. 49 Jeeps is a record for this
group and we were excited to see them all. Wish we all had more time to
look at them. Thanks to everyone who showed up from near and far. We
are looking forward to seeing you all next year on Sunday, June 13,
2010,
again at the No. 9 Mine and Museum in Lansford, PA.
Special thanks to Carl and Dan from Walck’s Four Wheel Drive for
donating many prizes and answering technical questions. Prizes went to
1st through 3rd place "Participants Choice" and 1st through 3rd place
"People Choice" winners, along with a number of random door prize
drawings. Everyone that brought a vehicle was eligible to win! Fred
Coldwell also donated a signed copy of his Pre-Production Civilian
Jeep
book for a prize that went to the winning "Project Vehicle".
Additional thanks go out to the Number 9 Mine and Museum staff and the
Lansford Volunteer Fire Department. Thanks to Larry Long for posting
signs in the area – that really increased the number of local
enthusiasts – and to OK4WD
for helping spread the word.
