It's time to plan for the 10th annual Great Willys Picnic, Swap Meet and Car Show. All vehicles are welcome: stock, modified, projects, CJs, Wagons, Trucks, Jeepsters, Military, Cars, and even GPW's! Every pre-1970 Willys vehicle is eligible to win contests and door prizes. Bring your Willys memorabilia and interesting parts for show and tell. Be sure to arrive early because at 3:00 PM the contest winners are announced and the prizes are awarded.

The picnic will be held on the grounds of the historic No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum, located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, Pennsylvania. This is a great setting to display our classic Willys vehicles, as well entertainment for the whole family. Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Visitors can take a train ride into the mine to see and experience first hand what it was like for old time miners to work underground. There is also plenty to look at in the museum: work clothes hanging in wire baskets, tools including drills, picks, shovels, blasting equipment and even lunch cans, caps, and lamps! Exhibits include a life sized replica of a mule tender boy and his mine mule, a large photographic collection, handmade models, beautifully handcrafted items carved of coal, original paintings, railroad artifacts, fossils and gems, a model of a coal colliery (made for the New York Worlds Fair), maps, signs, and a mucking machine, coal fired furnace, a replica of an 1800’s miner's kitchen, and much more.

In case of rain we will also have access to the Picnic Pavilion. As always, the Willys Picnic, Show and Swap Meet is free. The optional Mine Tour & Museum admission is only $7.00 per person; Museum Only just $3.00 per person.

The Great Willys Picnic 2008

If you did not attend The Great Willys Picnic this year you missed a fun filled Willys day! The sun was shining on 19 Willys vehicles and many other attendees at the Picnic in Big Pocono State Park. Grills were cooking up all sorts of tasty-smelling lunches. Familiar faces were mixed in with newcomers and everyone was enjoying the many vintage Jeeps and accessories. Walck's Four Wheel Drive provided the awards for the people's choice contest and door prizes, as well as goody bags for all attendees. Carl and Dan also answered a multitude of technical questions for the crowd. In addition to the great winning vehicles, all other Jeep enthusiasts were eligible to win gift certificates to Walck's Four Wheel Drive just for bringing their Willys out for the day to share with everyone. For those whose Willys are "under re-construction" we enjoyed checking out the progress from the photo albums - and look forward to seeing the live versions at next year's picnic. The swap meet was a big success as usual.  Sheet metal, a Harrison heater and even a rear PTO were up for grabs, as well as many other hard to find parts. It was another fun day chatting with all the Willys enthusiasts and seeing the variety of Jeeps. I can't wait for next year's picnic on Sunday, June 14th.
